Can we ever trust ‘Red Ed’ and the Labour Party?

The answer is clearly no.
There were no surprises from ‘Red Ed’ in yesterday’s announcement of the Labour Party’s intentions.
Labour will never follow a radical programme. They expelled many good socialists in the time of Neil Kinnock. Whilst there are a number of good socialists in the Labour Party still, people like Dennis Skinner, the Labour Party leadership succeeded in their right-wing entryism when they took over and got rid of Clause Four of their constitution. We should remember that the Labour Party was set up as the political wing of the Trade Union movement and was originally a broad church, including the Cooperative Movement, the ILP (Independent Labour Party) and people like James Keir Hardie and Nye Bevan.
But we should note that these imposters still take the union’s money but will stab them in the back at the drop a hat, such as in recent times when Labour betrayed them over the one day strike action.
I always thought that the piper was supposed to call the tune.
Come on union members! Now is the time to put some pressure on your leadership and severe links with these charlatans once and for all.

Are things are hotting up in the independence game? Scotland first and then Wales?

I must admit it’s been rather an interesting few days. Not only has Cameron come across as high handed in his attitude to Scotland but this morning’s newspapers have been warning him to ‘tread carefully’ except, of course the Telegraph - but what else might you expect of this paper? The damage has been done North of the border. I hope that he has found himself in a hole and is silly enough to keep digging.
I was interested to note that the plans for the new proposed high speed train link are being put forward today. It will only go as far as Birmingham. Clearly anywhere to the north of Birmingham is of little interest to this London-centric government.
Later today we are going to hear what plans Labour have for our future. All indications predict it will promise little more than belt tightening and some minor plans for wealth redistribution. Certainly nothing radical will be proposed and Wales would once more be at the bottom of the pile should we not be independent by the time Labour gets back into government in London (if ever).
On a different point which to some extent is linked with the above. Obviously Scottish oil is one of the reasons why Cameron et al want to hold on to Scotland. But there is a new technology on the horizon which could the Welsh equivalent of Scottish Oil, i.e. ‘underground coal gasification’ or under-sea to be more precise. Licences have been granted for pilot studies in 18 locations around England and Wales, one is being undertaken in Swansea Bay whilst most other sites are in the North of England.
This technology would enable our coal resources to be accessed and the energy produced would be much cheaper than any other form.....the question, of course is who should own it? Will Wales be asset stripped once more? The point I’m making here is that Wales is sitting on massive coal resources which could finance us in the initial phases of our independence. Should this technology become fully developed we would be a very rich little country. I note that the South-East of England has only one pilot, in the Thames estuary linked to the Kent coalfield. The rest are mostly linked to the coal fields of the North East.
Maybe it will dawn on our good friends in the North that they ought to start considering their future links with the asset hungry South-East of England.

Are we ready for self rule?

The question might seem to be directed at Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland...but, what about the English....are they ready? I personally have nothing against Morris Dancing ...nothing could be more fun than being hit over the head by a pig's bladder on a stick but....the question is..’Are the English yet ready to govern themselves?’...Can they cope on their own?

Okay, whilst the Celtic world has provided leaders like Lloyd George and George Brown it has also provided others such as Nye Bevan and Keir Hardie. More importantly the weight of the Celtic vote has spared the English from the worst excesses of their leadership. Do we desert them now? Should we Celtic nations set up on our own, or, is that being too selfish?
Is it right to abandon the many good, honest hardworking English people to a lifetime of rule by people who don’t represent their interests? For me the time has now come for us to go our own way.

Nationalism in its narrow sense would seem for many socialists as being nothing more than a form of parochialism and self-aggrandizement, but, in the broader sense of self-governing units in a wider European context, smaller socialist inclined states could provide somewhere where good things happen. Maybe prescription charges and student fees are small beer.... but it’s a start.... and, notwithstanding economic restraints, other good examples may follow.

Maybe that would leave the English political landscape pretty bleak for anyone having socialist inclinations...... or maybe not. The practices of close neighbours could stimulate a rethink. English devolution may not seem such an anathema as it was last time round. What about the poor souls marooned in the Tory heartland...well there’s always Morris Dancing....
